Today was my first full day back at the office. My first attempt yesterday was interrupted with medical appointments as will tomorrow, but today was a complete day back, my first in over seven weeks. My car has been sitting silently all that time and had to be jump started to get me there. As I was driving I could hear a grinding every time the wheels came back around to the place they had been sitting - that’s how long it’s been.
I’ve been working from home, really missing being on campus and seeing all of my colleagues. Being back on campus certainly fosters a feeling normalcy that’s welcome. I plan to be working through next Monday right before my next chemo treatment, then I’m not sure how it will go. My interrupted chemo session has brought me a good week and I want to put it to good use. Next time when I hope to get the full dose I may not be as lucky. Although it was incomplete there were still plenty of side effects to contend with and even now I still don’t feel normal, just much better than last week.
There was one point about mid-day when I had decided to go home. For some reason my bowels were paining me and I was uncomfortable sitting and thought maybe it would be better to go home and lie down, a position my laptop and I have become very accustomed to (in fact currently doing that right now). Bolting down the stairs on my way out I met a surprised Peter, who had on a scruff which he wore well, standing at the bottom. We chatted, shook hands, and when I left him, my feet took me to lunch instead of the car.

I’m glad you came over here instead of going home. It was great to see you back here.
